Janet Walters

Janet Walters is a seasoned VFX Producer whose career spans blockbuster features, company-wide initiatives, and nearly two decades of visual effects production at Wētā FX.

Known for her collaborative leadership, she partners closely with VFX Supervisors and clients to ensure creative ambitions are realized on time and on budget.

A strong advocate for cultivating creative, inclusive, and enjoyable work environments, Janet places team culture at the heart of every project she leads.

She began her journey at Wētā in 2003 as a nighttime runner on The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, gaining firsthand exposure to the studio’s high-calibre global talent and technical excellence.

After gaining on-set and behind-the-scenes experience on King Kong and The Water Horse, she returned to Wētā FX in 2008 with a renewed focus and passion for visual effects. Her production leadership has since contributed to high-profile titles including Avatar, Avengers Assemble, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Her transition into producing roles was marked by projects such as Fantastic Four and Central Intelligence, where she produced complex VFX deliveries across diverse teams.

In recent years, Walters has expanded her impact within the studio, contributing to crew management, spearheading DE&I initiatives, and driving studio-level planning strategy. 

A graduate in Film and French Language with a Certificate in Film and Television Production, Janet is also a member of Women in Film and Television (WIFT) NZ. She considers contributing to positive organizational change one of her proudest professional achievements to date.
