Our Work on SHAZAM: Fury of the Gods

At 75 shots, a comparatively small project for Wētā FX, our focus was on the pods from the Tree of Life and the monsters that subsequently sprung from them in a flurry of gloop.

Multiple variations of each type of monster, Manticores, Harpies, Cyclops and Minotaurs were created with their own unique characteristics — scars, height, facial features etc..

After some initial reluctance, our hero Billy Batson’s family also manages to rally support in the form of a blessing of unicorns helping to round them up for the final show-down with the monsters.

In addition to modelling and animating the creatures, our team integrated them into the plates and added various types of athmosphere and helper FX to transform downtown Atlanta where the plates were shot, into Philadelphia as an arena of supernatural conflict.

We also had fun creating a digital double for the director David F. Sandberg for a close encounter with a harpie during a cameo appearance:  we can confidently claim ‘no directors were harmed in the making of this film’.
