She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has been a labour of love for the Wētā team. Our modellers and creature teams got stuck in early helping our client conceive a believable 6ft 7in green female superhero. She needed to be as comfortable in a court room and in sequinned dresses as she is in Spandex training with her cousin The Hulk or kicking supervillain ass.
And of course unmistakably played by Tatiana Maslany.
Wētā animators developed the digital performance of She-Hulk to reveal every aspect of Tatiana’s personality and expressions using a blend of cutting-edge bespoke software and techniques.
Working from the inside out we built She-Hulk to show detailed skin and muscle deformations, to reveal the nuances of Tatiana’s expressive face and accurately compensate for the motion of a human-sized actor when applied to a 6ft7 asset, using a blend of motion capture and keyframe animation techniques.
We created seven custom grooms, each with three times the number of strands on a physical head of hair and deployed Wētā’s unique zero-gravity grooming method to ensure hair falls in place naturally.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is a showcase of advanced VFX techniques on an episodic small screen production. The Wētā team was proud to set a new bar for a digital hero character carrying a whole show.
Our work on the series also includes several environments, most notably The Hulk’s tropical seafront compound, as well as a multitude of hulks, demons and superpowered heroes and villains from the Marvel Universe.
