Peacemaker explores the continuing story of the vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
The new series follows Christopher Smith as he returns home from hospital after his near-fatal altercation with Bloodsport at the end of The Suicide Squad.
Director James Gunn approached us to surround Peacemaker with memorable characters and to create some outlandish moments to match the larger-than-life personas at the centre of the story.
Peacemaker’s best friend Eagly, the American Bald Eagle with the unmistakable swagger and penchant for hugging, is completely CG and anatomically accurate. Arguably a breakout star of the show, we built him from the inside out and developed our proprietary hero feather tool to create accurate, interactive feather simulations in microscopic detail.
We were also responsible for Peacemaker’s extensive collection of chrome helmets, each individually weaponized by his dad, White Dragon, with functionality like “Sonic Boom”, “Human Torpedo”, and “X-ray Vision”. We made the x-ray vision shots with plate photography from a thermal camera, layered with a CG skeletal system and internal organs.
The seemingly endless and physics-defying Quantum Closet—a storage facility that White Dragon used to store the helmets and the rest of his terrifying arsenal—was also created by our team.
In addition to other gore and blood effects, including the creation and eventual destruction of digital heads and other body parts, we crafted a scene where a CG talking gorilla is sawn in half with a chainsaw. We also created the invading alien race of parasitic butterflies and the caterpillar cow they teleported to Earth to milk for food.
