In addition to the spectrals themselves, our work consisted of a number of detailed vehicle and weaponry builds, set extensions as well as more complicated full CG shots to create the scarred city where most of the action takes place. The creation of the ghostly spectrals gave us the opportunity to stretch creatively and build on our toolset for creating supernatural effects. The creatures’ otherworldly nature meant creating materials that don’t exist and developing completely unnatural movements that still sit believably in a real-world setting. The swirling, condensing forms required a lot of collaboration between our FX and animation teams to get them looking just right.
