If you’re trying to get a job in VFX, get together with other people and work on a group project. When you present that in a reel, talk to what you contributed.

Be bold and be resilient. Contacting a company for the first time can be very daunting! Get in touch with recruitment and keep in touch! Update your CV and reel as often as you can and let them know. It means that you are on their mind if anything suitable comes up for you.

Talk to VFX Artists at seminars and festivals. Ask questions! VFX artists actually love talking about their work.

You are always collaborating with others. People skills are as important as Creative and Technical skills.

Hone your observational skills. Even fantastical VFX work is grounded in reality.

Critically look at the environment around you. How would you replicate that digitally? Don’t be afraid to study reference and try to match it.

VFX is visual problem-solving - embrace thinking laterally - it’s like thinking outside the box while flying by the seat of your pants!
