Creatures Technical Director
As an ATD, she got to experience all the different aspects of the Creatures department from rigging to cloth and fur simulation.
Over time she chose to specialise in cloth and hair simulation but her broad training allows her to jump in and do some rigging as well when the show calls for it.
Christine’s favourite aspect of her work is the mix of artistic and technical skills required. She gets to solve a variety of challenges, ensuring fur has a particular look the client is after or a piece of wardrobe behaves in a certain way and reacts appropriately. She learns something new every day.
"One sequence I worked on that I'm quite proud of is from Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. For his final move of the battle, we needed to do a CG wardrobe replacement and I added wrinkles and flutter which needed to look like he was moving through a wind tunnel."
ADVICE FROM CHRISTINE: While technical skills are important in this role, you have to remember that VFX is collaborative – loads of people work on each finished shot we deliver to the client. So the ability to work in a team and communicate is extremely important as well.
Always be open to learning something new, and share your knowledge as part of the process.
